2017 Review | Travel & Highlights

New year, new me.. or something or like that. Today I wanted to share some of the things I did in 2017, where my travels have taken me and what I've accomplished. It's a time to reflect on the year and look forward to new experiences and challenges that will come in 2018.

In 2017, I managed to visit 4 countries. Wish that number was a lot higher but what can you do, this year I'll aim for minimum 6! In January I went to America for the first time ever. I went with uni to New York for just under a week. It was such an amazing experience! It felt like a whole new world, it was so different from the UK. We went to a marketing agency which was so cool but generally did sightseeing and shopping. I spent a lot of money on makeup and I don't regret it one bit! Check out the travel diary I posted on the trip.

In the Summer, me, Oli and his family went to Greece. That was also a new one as I've never been. My mum has been a few times and she loved it so I really wanted to go. We stayed there just over a week and it was incredible. The weather was scorching everyday from about 8am and we just chilled by the pool for hours and drank cocktails. That's my kind of holiday! It was nice to see a bit of Corfu too. We drove around in a small bus which the driver drove like a maniac. I mean holding onto the chairs kinda fast. I think it's a Greek thing. I can't wait to go again and see the incredible views. Check out the travel diary for some more pictures from the trip.

Of course I also went to Poland. In the summer my auntie was getting married so it was the perfect opportunity to go and see my family. It was also the perfect opportunity to splash out on that Ted Baker dress I really wanted but let's not talk about that. I have to say that I am really jealous of my sister. She's currently living in Germany so goes to Poland all the time since its only a few hours away. Hopefully I get a chance to go this year. Check out the travel diary from the trip!

About a month ago me and Oli went back to Germany for the second time, this time we spent more than 24 hours in it (check out the interrailing trip). We visited my sister which is doing her year abroad now, she's actually started a blog to write about her experience and you should definitely check it out! We had such a great time, visited about 5 Christmas markets and had a lot of Gl├╝hwein. The weather was so cold though, it was so weird to experience that type of cold again. Last time I remember being that cold was in New York in January. Hands going red when exposed for more than 5 seconds, crazy! Still had a great time hanging out with my sister and her boyfriend though.

Back to Retail and Placements
This year has also been the year that I got back into retail! I used to work in retail when I was about 17 however didn't enjoy it so switched to hospitality. I worked in a pub and in a restaurant as a bartender for about 2 years. In March I finally did it and started working in Zara. Zara is one of my go to shops when I buy clothes. It's mostly just Topshop and Zara so getting the job was a great opportunity for me considering I'm studying Fashion, not to mention the 25% discount. I definitely buy more clothes now. It has been nearly a year since I started working there and my time is coming to end. After meeting so many wonderful people I will be leaving in March to start my placements which I'm so excited for! I managed to score 3 placements for 2018 with one of them being Ted Baker working in Marketing. This is where it all starts, this is how I'll get into Vogue!!

Went to my first Fashion Week show
2017 was the year I went to my first Fashion Week show in London. It wasn't Celine or anything but it still felt amazing. I saw Chanel Joan Elkalayam showcasing her Spring/Summer collection. It was such an honour to be invited and speak to Chanel, she's an incredible woman who will go far in her career. It was nice to chat to some other bloggers that were invited and pick their brains. Abigail was super friendly and Susan took some outfit pictures for me. We even got some lunch together. Check out the blog post on the event,

Went to London Fashion Week Festival
Its the closest thing to Fashion Week for public. Luxury shopping, talks with designers and meeting really famous people. Okay I didn't really meet really famous people but I did meet Rosie Fortescue. The whole trip was great because it was something I did on my own. I booked a hostel, travel and just did things I wanted to for 2 days. Hopefully I get some time off work this year so I can go again. Check out the blog post on the trip.

Hope you enjoyed this post, thanks for reading, Dom x
