On Confidence

Hello my lovelies!
Today I wanted to talk about something that I've been thinking a lot about recently. At college, I've been doing a project based on the theme of confidence which made me think about it in a lot of detail. I wanted to look at it from a fashion perspective so I looked into magazines, famous fashion quotes and it showed an overall feeling that fashion IS confidence. It's about how much you pursue that confidence by what you wear. Fashion is there for people to express themselves without speaking Nonetheless, it became a surprise to me at how much people lack it. I undertook a questionnaire asking people:
  • What does confidence mean to you?
  • What makes you confident?
  • What makes you feel uncomfortable?
  • What’s the favourite part of your body?
  • What do you like about your face?
  • What is beauty to you?
  • What do you think about before you put on your clothes?
  • Why do you chose the colours you wear?
  • What made you chose your top this today?
  • Who is your style icon?
  • Why?
  • How important are looks to you?
  • Do you feel confident with the clothes that you wear ?

The answers were mostly really confident and everyone seemed to like certain parts of their body. I then interviewed people asking the same questions but this time, I just asked them instead of telling them to write it down. By body language and hesitation, I noticed that people weren't that confident in their answers. My biggest surprise was interviewing a girl which I always thought was super confident but she seemed so intimidated by the questions. That day she wore a very girly dress which turned out she was really unsure about.
Nonetheless, the majority of people were very content with how they looked and they had a strong opinion on the matter of confidence. I followed the questions up with a series of photographs and a short video which is just below.
The idea with the styling pictures was about wearing something that you'd think twice before wearing. I styled the beautiful Stevie in very colourful or revealing clothes and let her just be goofy and do whatever she wanted. I also took pictures without warning so I'd catch her true spirit without posing like a model.
