NTU Fashion Design Show 2019

Colour, Diversity & Emotion

I realised that this is my third fashion design show post. Each year I walk out of the show feeling completely overwhelmed with emotions. People say that it's just fashion so how can it have any meaning?

After studying fashion for the past 3 years I have fallen in love with how fabric can tell so many stories. I'm not creative enough to be doing fashion design, so I'm in absolute awe by how these wonderful designers are able to tell stories and arise emotions through their clothing. 

This year the Fashion Design students have done it again pulling out patterns, deconstructed shaped and movement in fabric. The level of professionalism and attention to detail in this show is always meticulous. I also mention diversity for this year's show as it was wonderful to see models on wheelchairs rockin' the runway, showcasing Evie Ashwin's collection. Fashion can seem like such a backward industry sometimes so it's amazing to see the future designers being diverse and inclusive to all types of consumers. 

The craziest and most surprising work was by Kerstyn Xin Zhao featuring spacey pregnant-like belly bumps alongside the soundtrack of a child laughing. I don't think anyone was expecting that. My favourite piece has to be by Adela Babinska featuring the full length string, moving beautifully as the model strutted the runway. It was one of those moments with the camera clicking away and me thinking 'I just have to get this shot!’
