Vegas Day&Night Lookbook

March 30, 2016
Hello my lovelies!
Vegas.com is a great place to find anything Las Vegas. I decided to participate in their Ultimate Vegas Outfit. I've created 2 ultimate Day & Night looks with my own spin on Vegas style. I've chosen one of their hotels for inspiration. The Venetian hotel is so lovely and after going to Venice in November (post about it is here), I've really been missing the atmosphere.
The hotel features restaurants operated by Mario Batali, Buddy Valastro and Wolfgang Puck. The rooms are all humongous Venetian style suites with a classic twist. The hotel has 120,000 square feet casinos. Games include blackjack, craps, roulette, baccarat, pai gow, pai gow poker, Caribbean Stud Poker, Let It Ride and keno. There are nearly 2,500 slot and video poker machines, with Megabucks and Wheel of Fortune. An elegant poker room is also housed at the resort. My favourite part about the hotel are definitively the gondolas. They have them on the outside and on the inside of the hotel which I can't wrap my head around. How do you even? Just shows it the place where anything is possible.

For my first day look I looked into layering. I wanted to think about how I can transition from the day look to the night look easily. I picked this lovely black skater dress and threw on the loose blue top over to keep things more casual and comfortable. My style obviously reflected my choice here and because I'm more of a girly girl I tend to wear dresses more often. I always wear heels or something that gives me a bit more height so I went for my favourite boots for this outfit because they just go with everything. Makeup wise I have used one palette to create the day and night looks over the 2 days. I used the pale blue eyeshadow all over the lid with a pop of the white shade in the crease to open up the eyes a little.

Transferring into the night look, I took off the blue top and threw on a long black cardigan to class it up a little. For these shots I visited the Fun Station in Corner house Nottingham with Oli and it was so fun! In Vegas you're very likely to end up playing at the casinos in one of the glamorous Las Vegas hotels and although I've never been to a proper casino I feel like it's something you dress up for. It's probably just me thinking about Bond here and particularly the Bond girls. They always look so dressed up and classy. Now my take isn't the classiest take you can do on the little black dress, I mean it is a skater dress in the end but I just love it. It can work for the day and the night look. Makeup wise, I use the same palette to transfer into the night look. TOP TIP have some sticky tape on hand to create the perfect night look. Stick the tape from the outer eye corner, to the end of eyebrow and apply your darker shadows on the outer part of your eye. I intensified my look by adding a dark blue to the crease and a black roughly dabbed on close to the tape. Once ripped off you get an eyeliner effect. This is definitely for the lazy ones. Or like me, the ones that just can't get that perfect eyeliner. I've just given up now on the traditional ways.
Second day look! It's the more casual styling out of the two. I'm wearing some Primark jeggings and a Primark loose top half tucked in to show a little bit of the belt. Agin wearing my fave boots to get some height. I think this look would be great for days out in Vegas. It's comfortable and stylish. For the makeup I've gone again for the pale blue eye look.

Anddd to finish everything off, the final night look. Again, hitting up them arcades in my fancy dresses. I got really into the games and I even attempted bowling which was so fun! I also won against Oli. Anyhow, outfit wise, I'm wearing a vintage style knee length dandelion dress with a loose shirt over it. I like how it gave the dress a casual element but still changed from an outfit your wear during the day. The black boots lasted till the end.  They honestly go with everything and I think they're the shoes which I've shown most on this blog recently. If you've seen my February Lookbook you'll know what I mean.

So that's everything for this post. I don't normally post on Wednesdays but I had a deadline for this content (like a proper adult may I say), hopefully there still will be a post up on Sunday. I'm completely clueless what it would be though. I'll see. I'll definitely still post on Friday though!

I'll stop rambling, thanks for reading, I really hope you enjoyed this post and I'd appreciate any feedback.

Quick and Easy Healthy Breakfast | Banana Pancake

March 27, 2016
Hello my lovelies!
I've got a really simple and easy breakfast recipe for you. You know that feeling when you wake up and you're not really awake and you just open the fridge hoping that there's something there ready that you can eat? Or is that just me? Well I've been making banana pancakes for the past week or so for breakfast and it just saves me so much time. I don't have to think for ages what to make or use lots of different products but still manage to keep it fun and more exciting than a slice of toast.
All you need is:

  • A banana
  • 1 egg
  • A little flour

Photography Friday: London Life

March 25, 2016

Just some pictures from the recent London trip. We took a trip with college on Tuesday to London with the intention of doing research for the final major project. I decided to go to the National Portrait Gallery to see the Vogue exhibition. It was honestly incredible and so relatable to my project. Unfortunately you couldn't take pictures inside which really upset me because I wanted to feature them here but what can you do. Looks like you're just getting a little snippet of London today. It was such a wonderful day, sunny and the atmosphere outside the National Gallery was so calm.
There were musicians playing their guitars, artist painting on the pavement and even a guy breakdancing. I was also surprised by another person tapping on my shoulder to give me a flower, as he said, "for the pretty lady".
I love the atmosphere in London, it's always going to be the goal, move to London and work for Vogue hehe. Big goals, I know. Maybe one day.

Fave Charity Shops | Sue Ryder

March 20, 2016
It's another fave charity shop post!
If you haven't seen my other fave charity shop post, don't fear because the link is right here. Wow that was cringey. Anyway, today I'm featuring the Sue Ryder in Nottingham Hockley. I popped in recently on a hunt for some colourful clothes for my next college project and I thought I'd do a post about it.

I honestly love Sue Ryder, it's that type of charity shop which obviously has second-hand things but it's all colourful and actually vintage. The displays are always on point and the girls there are so lovely. Shout out to Sarah who served me! They were really nice about me taking pictures and very helpful.

I'll go into the background a little bit just so you know what the charity is all about. Sue Ryder is a charity shop which, believe it or not, was started by Sue Ryder. I think her story is truly incredible as she was such an amazing woman who did so much for other people. Born in 1924, Lady Ryder helped during WW2 onwards. She has helped out with many charities and on their website, I noticed a wonderful quote by her "Do what you can for the person in front of you". If you want to read up on the charity a little more then click here for their website. The charity currently provide care for people with frightening, life-changing diagnosis through medical care and emotional support. It's just amazing and I love the idea that you're getting some awesome things, knowing that you're helping someone.

Personally, I fell in love with Sue Ryder a couple of years ago when I started developing my style a little more and I discovered just how amazing it is. I started to love the vintage style but not so much head-to-toe, just incorporating it to my dressy style. I know some people are a bit weird with second-hand clothes or any other items for that matter. Fo me I don't really mind at all. With my reputation of being a bargain queen, charity shops are a perfect solution. I've recently noticed that in the Hockley Sue Ryder they have been doing a vintage section by the front of the shop (which is the image above) and I just love the way it all looks. All the patterns and colours placed strategically on the rails are just so eye catching and it literally just makes you want to buy all of it. I've got some images below of tsome of the items in the shop and the displays they have so enjoy.

So that is it for today, let me know what you think about the post and don't forget to check Sue Ryder out on their website.

Photography Friday | My Obsession With Sunsets

March 18, 2016

Yes, I know I know, some more pictures of Sunsets for Photography Friday. You're probably thinking okay, enough is enough. I guess I just have this massive urge to take out my camera whenever there's a sunset. I don't know what it is that makes them appeal so much to me.

Although when I start to think about it, and excuse me but I'm going to get very deep here. It's all about the feeling that they bring. We run such a busy lifestyle and are constantly on the go. We tend to forget to stop and just appreciate beautiful things.

I notice this when I'm in the car with my mum. We'll be driving through the countryside with a perfect view on a sunrise or sunset and I'll point it out to her, but she just tends to nod and look away. Or maybe it's because she's driving a car and wants to look where she's going but you get my point. I feel like my mum is constantly on the go as she works a lot but I guess I can't really assume what she appreciates and what she doesn't. I know that I do this a lot though. I forget to look up from my phone and just intake the world. I think this generation has been lacking in that (including me) but I'm really trying to appreciate better. I think getting travel sick on the bus recently has really forced me to look up more but that's a whole other story. But overall, I've been getting very lightheaded when I'm on the bus and my head is down or I'm reading something. I'm kind of forced to just sit forward and look out.

I feel like sunsets have this mesmerising thing to them. Whenever I look at them I just stare in silence without a single thought going through my head. They're almost hypnotising. In that moment where I get the perfect view, I feel like the world has stopped and things aren't hectic and I'm not worring about a college project. I'm just looking and appreciating. My mum says that whenever we drive through the countryside past a field of sheep, she feels like that. You drive past them but they just seem to not move and it's like time has stopped for a second or at least it has slowed down.

After getting into Photography I guess I've just been obsessed with capturing that moment in pictures.
I think this little segment on my blog lets me not only develop my Photography skills and all that but it lets me capture moments and feelings which is more than I can ask for. It's like a smell that triggers a memory or a feeling. I believe that images can do the same. When you look through photographs when you were younger, and you get all sentimental, you think back to when you were in that moment. I know sunsets aren't people and there isn't a conversation or a person that makes you think back to it, but there is a feeling. That's what makes me feel better sometimes. Life is all about feelings and memories.

Beauty Runway Trends: Spring/Summer 2016

March 13, 2016
Hello my lovelies!
Today I wanted to attempt some recent beauty trends which have been spotted at spring summer runways. Also images that I've been seeing on Pinterest which I've been dying to try, check out my inspiration board here.

Now in terms of the general style, it's become a trend to go really minimal with the makeup. Models are wearing just a bold lippy or a pop of colour on the lid without any of the extras like mascara or eyeliner. Eyebrows are very bushy and undone.

I have 4 different looks:
  • Gold eyebrows
  • Bold Geometric eyeshadows
  • Statement Red lips
  • Pop of Colour eyebrows
The Red Lip
For this look, I'm only wearing a little NYX Dark Circles concealer under my eye for a base. I've put a little Bourjois Délice de Poudre bronzing powder on for some dimension and brushed my eyebrows up. I just wanted to focus the whole look on the lips. I started them off by using an Essence red lipliner and just filled in the whole lips. For the lipstick I used an old favourite, MUA in the shade 1.

Photography Friday: Foggy Mornings

March 11, 2016

So I woke up this morning and I remembered that it's Photography Friday... and I didn't have any pictures. I don't know if anyone was up at the ridiculous time of 9 am and saw how foggy it was. Now most people would think well the weather is bad so I can't go out and take pictures. But not me! I thought challenge accepted. I picked up my 'How to Photography Absolutely Everything' book and looked up foggy days. I'm still learning so I literally had no idea how to capture this dull day. So shoutout to Tom Ang. I went out and took some pictures and I must say it worked out quite well. I'm not sure, what do you guys think?

I used the landscape setting on my camera with an ISO on 100, exposure time on 1/800 and f-stop on 4. Hope this helps.

Photography Friday | Arty Farty: Nottingham Affinity Festival Throwback

March 04, 2016
Okay so I was looking through my images recently, and I noticed this folder of images from the Affinity Festival at the Nottingham Contemporary. I was going to do a blog post about it back in November but I guess I never got around to it.

It was a really fun event which I volunteered for and I honestly loved it so much. They had a little cardboard box where on the other side an artist talked to you while doing a drawing of you. I thought it was amazing because I've never had anything like that done. It just felt so personal as the artist really wanted to get to know you.

The second image is a shot of some of the works of students from Top Valley Academy I believe. I spent one of the days there with the year 11 students showing their work to the school and promoting the festival at the Contemporary. I loved their work though, it was all so personal to them, for example the teddy bear (which isn't actually in this image). The girl that did it loved her teddy and she was drawing it everywhere that day.

I am struggling a little for images to be fair too. I'm in the process of finishing a project at college, ready to start my final major project so I've been finishing off everything. Im so excited for the next project, I have a very ambitious wish of creating a fashion magazine. No idea how to do that but hey how, I can learn right? I have some exciting content for Sunday too, so I'm really excited for it. I'll be a fashion diary!

I'll see you on Sunday, Dom x
