Classic Valentine's Day Look | Naked 2 Palette

February 14, 2016

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!
It's time to celebrate love (I know, I'm so cheesy). But seriously, whether you're in a relationship or not, I think people should celebrate it. I personally am in a relationship but if I wasn't I'd still dress up and do stuff. I think love starts with yourself. It's very important to love and appreciate oneself before letting anyone else love you. Why not celebrate yourself? Even better, celebrate the loved ones in your life like your friends of family. Get glammed up and go out with your mates for cocktails or get your mum some flowers.
IT'S ALL ABOUT LOVE!

Anyhow, today I'm showing my classing Valentine's day look with some bright red lippy because I just love them. I think it suits me too but you can always add a different colour to the lips. I also received the Naked 2 palette from Oli for my birthday so I thought I'd create a Valentines day look with it. I know, I feel very professional when using it. Of course, this is perfect if you have the palette but if not don't worry. There are lots of dupes out there like the Makeup Revolution Iconic 2 palette.

Just a disclaimer, sorry I look so posey in the pictures. Or miserable hehe. There's a lot of concentration when I do my makeup.
So here's a step by step to creating the look.

With a primed and moisturised face I just go straight to foundation. I'm currently using two because the Maxfactor Colour Adapt (left) is too light (shade 40 Creamy Ivory) or it just makes me look a bit dead, whereas the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum (right) is a little bit too orangey on me (shade Light Beige). It's really good for putting some life into my face though. I'm using a small stippling brush to do this as I think it blends the foundation well and applies it very easily. The best technique is probably to start off at the T zone and blend your way out. For this look I think it's also best to go for a light to medium coverage as it looks very natural and delicate. Perfect for the occasion. You don't want to look too done up. Don't forget to blend the foundation down the neck to avoid a line along the jawline.

Next it's time to conceal. I don't know about you guys but I get really bad dark circles under my eyes. I just always look really tired. Again i'm going in with 2 concealers just because the Maybelline Fit Me concealer (left) is too dark... well at least for highlighting the area. It has amazing coverage though hence why I still use it. I'm using the Rimmel Wake Me Up concealer for a bit of highlighting. To blend it all out, I'm just going to use a beauty blender (well a dupe) for an airbrushed effect. I think this is a great way to blend concealer out because unlike say using your figers you dont get any fingerprint marks and it blends beautifully on the skin. The tip is also really handy for areas like the under eye.

Now you need to set everything in place. I'm just gonna use my Rimmel Stay Matte powder to make sure I don't get any oilyness and that my eyeshadows stay in place. Which reminds me, don't forget to put a little powder under the eye and on the actual eyelid. If you're more oily in these areas there's a possibility of your foundation clumping in the creases. If you're going for a more dewy look just set the eye area and maybe the T zone. I think personally I'm more about matte. I don't like it when my face feels sticky.

Time to bronze up the face. I've been doing this a lot recently. I mean I always used to just contour but believe it on not they're completely different. When you're bronzing your face you're basically just giving your face some colour and dimension. To do this start of by swirling your brush in a bronzer, I'm using the Maybelline Dream Sun Triple Bronzing Powder. Now draw a 3 shape starting at your forehead near your hairline, drag it down near the end of your eyebrow and along your cheekbone, as if you were to contour. Bring the brush back towards the ear and along the jawline.

That's pretty much done with the face for now so moving on to the eyes. Can you tell how excited I am!

Start off with a nude shade to create a base for your other shadows. I'm using the Foxy shade in the palette all over the lid. I just use the brush that's inside to apply all the shades.
Now I'm just going to put a shimmery shade (Bootycall) all over the lid and on the brow bone just to make the eyes pop a little. I love shimmery looks so of course this look would just be extra shimmery due to the occasion. Brushing some shimmer on the brow bone also makes the brows more defined and sharp.
Now I'm just applying the champagne pink (Chopper) shade all over the lid as a base. Although the colour looks very pink in the palette, I feel like it looks a little more coppery when it's blended. I know, on the picture it just looks brown hehe. I promise it's not though.
Then I pick up an even more coppery shade, YDK, and just put it in the crease to deepen it a little. I also pick up a little bit of a deeper brown, Busted, and blend it into the crease. To finish it off I go back to the Bootycall shimmery shade and apply it in the inner corner which I thinks make the whole look so much better.
Im just gonna pick up a little bit of the Busted shade and run it on the outer bottom corner of the eye. It always seems to look more professional when I do this hehe.
To fill my eyebrows I've been using the Makeup Revolution Redemption Palette Iconic 2. I use the grey brown matte because it makes my brows look really natural.
For the blush Im using a Rimmel Stay Blushed Liquid Cheek Tint in the shade 004 Sunkissed Cherry. Its a lovely coraly peach. To be fair I don't really use this a lot because I'm always scared it won't blend out. At first it seems like you've made a massive mistake but it you keep blending you actually notice that it looks really cute.
Im just going to highlight some areas on my face now like the cheekbone, inner forehead, down my nose, my cupids bow and just under my lips to make them look a little fuller. Im using the Makeup Revolution Vivid Baked Highlighter in the shade Golden Lights. I love this highlighter! It looks so lovely on the skin however I feel like sometimes it might be a tad too glittery.
Moving on to the lips, I'm goingto line them with an Essence lipliner in 10 Femme Fatale. This is literally the only lipliner I own... I know. I never really used to use them but I guess it does make a difference when you want the lips to stay put.
Im using an MUA lipstick in shade 1 to fill in the lips. I absolutely love this lipstick! I think I've owned this for a year or 2 and I went through a massive phase when I first got it. I'm pretty sure I wore it every day.

To finish off the look, I'm just going to apply some mascara. I'm using the Maybelline Lash Sensational which honestly creates wonders. The wand evenly spreads the eyelashes so you don't get any clumps and the coverage is buildable. It really just makes your eye pop so I'd definately recommend it.

So that's it for today. I feel like I haven't done a makeup tutorial in so long. I forgot how time consuming they are to do. I sill love doing them though.
What's everyone's plans for today? I'm actually going to london for 2 days so that should be fun. I'm going to try and film it and maybe put up my very first video :) If I can figure out how to work iMovie. I find it so hard because I'm used to Final Cut Pro however we don't have it.

Anyway thanks for reading, don't forget to spread some love today, Dom x
