Christmas Eve | Polish Christmas

December 27, 2015
Christmas, Christmas and Christmas is over.
As most of you know (or have guessed by my name) I'm not actually English. I'm Polish and we celebrate Christmas a little differently. Poland is a very religious country and when it comes to Christmas we celebrate Christmas Eve more, rather than Christmas Day as it's more about the buildup to Jesus' birth.

We fast all day and pretty much start cooking early in the morning. We also eat different things, it's not the Christmas dinner that you get here (UK). We make LOTS of dumplings. They're called pierogi. There are different versions of them, some with cheese stuffing, some with cabbage but then we make these things called uszka which pretty much translate to ears. They're called like that... well because they look a bit like an ear.

Making Gingerbread Cookies/House

December 20, 2015

Tis' the season to be jolly!
Me and Oli have been getting festive and we've made a gingerbread house and some gingerbread cookies. Now I have to admit that I've burned like 1/3 of the cookies. Oopsies. Oh well, there's just enough for my family and a couple for Oli's.
I'm so excited for Christmas! We've broken up for Christmas now from college so I'm planning for the next few day to just chill and catch up on my sleep. I've been feeling quite ill recently so I really need this break. The fact that I have to do a 2,000 word essay isn't helping... but let's not think about that just yet. Has anyone else been baking anything? I always made the cookies, it's become a sort of tradition every year. I enjoy making them, but I wish they wouldn't take that 3/4 hours to do. Honestly, it can be a nightmare sometimes but I try to stay sane. I always play some Christmas songs or something and I get in my zone.
Have a nice Christmas everyone!

Christmas Decorations

December 19, 2015

Merry Christmas everyone!
Today I just wanted to share some decorations in my house to get us all in the festive spirit.
I loooove putting up the christmas decorations. It gets to the point that I ban my mum from doing it. Sorry not sorry but I just have to do it.
Paul helped though, he decorated the garden with lights on our 'bus stop' and he even put baubles on the tree we have in our garden. Needless to say it looks very festive.
I hope you're all having a wonderful holiday. How is your Christmas lead up coming along? I'd love to see your decorations. How do you celebrate your Christmas?  We celebrate it on Christmas Eve. Yes, I mean we open our presents on Christmas Eve. I don't really know how to explain why, I normally just say it's a Polish thing. What traditions do you have? I know a couple of people that just have Chinese on Christmas Day.
Well I hope you have a very relaxing holiday. Don't forget to catch some Christmas films on TV! My personal favourite, Love Actually. I can watch that film all day everyday.

Clothes Show 2015

December 13, 2015
...

Hiya
I've got a Clothes Show post today. Before I start can I just say that I'm writing this post in html and I'm so excited because I've never done that. Also I know the pictures look a bit different, yes I really needed to use a slideshow because I had tons of pictures and it would have made the post so long and boring. Anyway me and my friend Jade went to the 2015 Clothes Show last week on Saturday which was at the NEC in Birmingham and it was awesome! The only other 'fashion show' I went to was The Birmingham International Fashion Week, which I did a post on a while back.

We had VIP tickets so we managed to scoop up a free goodie bag which had, Burts Bees lip gloss, chocolate and the weirdest for last, wipes and shower gel for 'intimate areas'. If you're not familiar with the Clothes show and don't really know much about it, it's basically just a massive opportunity to shop till ya' drop. Now although I was super broke I managed to pick up a few things especially because they had a NYX stand! I know! I was so happy! We started off the day with the main show which showed trend predictions and themed styles like earth, underwater etc. I loved the main show because it was so fun! The choreography of the models was so good! You can see most of it in the slideshow above. I don't necessarily like Star Wars but I loved the Darth Vader bit and when the model blows a kiss, that was so cute and I'm so proud of capturing that moment hehe.

After the main show we just went around all the stands and tried out ALL the freebies for example we got our eyebrows done with some magical powder which last all day (Jade bought it in the end). The weirdest one I've tried was probably a teeth cleaning gel which felt so weird to put on. My favourite though was the Labrini cocktail bar, loved the free samples hehe. In the main hall where all the stand were they also had a couple of smaller stages for other shows like university students work etc. I loved that in events like that university fashion students get to showcase their work especially considering how hard it is in that industry.

Anyway, I just want to mention some of the brands here as I would have under their pictures. I found this stand with an adorable jewelry line. They were called Tada & Toy and I just loved their jewelry. You can see the pictures in the slideshow. The had gold and silver rings and necklaces which came in so many shapes and had so many cute details to them. They were very simplistic but also so beautiful. Another wonderful brand was Bag-a-licious which had such cute bags! In the slideshow you can see a few rubik's cubes stacked up, they were actually some of the bags. The had lots of other ones which looked adorable! They had cute little illustrations on them and some had an almost collage on the flap. They were so unique, I don't think I've ever seen bags with such on emphasis on art. Okay last one! In the slideshow near the end you'll see some silk tops mostly in the colour blue. It's a brand called Lulu Hayes which specialises in digital print/ luxury womenswear. Now it says 'luxury' but I feel like I could wear that all day every day. The prints were so intricate and honestly I was just mesmerized. The girls at the stand were also so lovely, I had a quick chat with them and managed to scoop up a business card.

Lastly can I just point out the celebs that were there! You can see I managed to snap a few shots of Jamie Laing, Joey Essex and Alexandra Felstead (or shall I say Binky). Now I'm not a big fan of reality tv but you just gotta take the pics when they're there hehe.

Anyway, thanks for reading, Dom x

Fashion Illustration | Art Foundation

December 11, 2015
Hello my lovelies!
I'm just sharing some of my recent work in college. I've recently decided that I want to do fashion marketing at university next year therefore I've been trying to build my portfolio with fashion related projects.
Coming back from Venice we dived into another project which was originally meant to be inspired by Venice. Now as you can probably tell mine isn't really inspired by... anything. The only relation it has to Venice is that I used an image from Venice, projected it using an OHP and drew the outlines from it. Nonetheless it became something thing that I'm really happy with.
Here's some of the designs that I've made.

Wish you were there | Venice Photo Diary

December 06, 2015
Hello my lovelies!
Another Venice post! I really wanted to share some pictures of Venice. It was such a beautiful place and every step the view was magnificent. We stayed pretty much right in the center with just a few minutes walk from St Marks Square. We got a lot of free time to explore and get lost however it was still a college trip. We went to the Biennale and saw international art which to be honest, wasn't that breath taking for me. I appreciated a lot of the work and saw it as art but nothing was really that inspiring for me.
Before I show any pictures I would like to point out that my camera went a little weird on the trip as in it saved all my pictures as really small files. Long story short, they get pixely when they're bigger hence why they're not full size like they are usually. I'm trying to fix that but unfortunately for this post I can't do anything about it. Anyway, I better get to it.
Just a quick disclaimer: Please don't use any images for your own use, I claim full copyright over them.

A couple of pictures taken in St Marks Square over the whole trip. As you can tell, we've discovered that there is an enormous amount of pigeons about and they're not scared of you. They started flying over everyone and sitting on peoples shoulders. In Nottingham you approach one and it fly's off. Anyhow, the square was amazing, I just wanted to walk around with my camera and capture everything. The people were so lovely there however the majority were indeed tourists.

Amazing view from our apartment window. As I went to Venice with college everyone stayed in a central hotel called Hotel Mignon. However not everyone would fit in the hotel itself therefore a  group of us stayed in an apartment close by. I'll say, I wish we stayed in the hotel mostly because we had to clean up after ourselves hehe

The famous Bridge of Sigh. Yes, I'm really proud of this picture too hehe. I took a couple and had a few that were top notch but I guess that's just because you can't not take a good picture of the Bridge.

Lastly I have some pictures from the island of Murano and Burano (Burano with the colourful houses). Burano is famous for it's colourful houses and the production of lace. Again you just want to walk around taking pictures. The tourist there were also lovely, one even offered to take some pictures of us just out of no where. Overall I have to say that Venice and the surrounding island have amazing people. It was just a wonderful experience.
